Graham Kings to be new Bishop of Sherborne |
 | The churchwardens and congregation of St Marys are delighted to announce that Graham Kings, our vicar since September 2000, has been appointed the next Bishop of Sherborne in the diocese of Salisbury. The announcement was made on 24 April from 10 Downing Street. Graham's last Sunday at St Mary's was 17 May. For photos of his last Sunday click here. Since coming to St Mary's Graham has been instrumental in pushing forward the building works in the crypt and the neighbourhood centre, greatly increasing the possibilities of our mission and ministry in Islington. His creative energy and love of God's word has shaped the worship and life of St Mary's. He and his family will be greatly missed but we know that he will be an excellent bishop in the county of Dorset. Graham will be consecrated bishop in Westminster Abbey on 24 June. All members of the congregation are invited to attend. For a ticket application form please e-mail

Good Friday Procession 2009 |
| Despite ominous rain clouds, the weather held for the Islington Good Friday Procession along Upper Street from the N1 Centre to St Mary's Church. This year the cross was carried by Sam Stephens from St Mary's with about 300 people from the breadth of Islington's churches following the procession which finished with a short service at St Mary's. Nikki Groarke, vicar of St Stephens Canonbury gave the address. | | | | | Upper Street, which runs for a mile from the Angel to Highbury Corner, is reputed to have more bars and restaurants than any other street in Europe. Victor Virdi, our photographer, took some arresting images of the procession as it wove its way through contemporary Islington, creating consternation and recognition in equal measure. Click here to see more of Victor's photographs. | |
